Overview of grants and requirements
Each year the Wilson Ornithological Society awards research funding in four different categories; each category has a distinct emphasis and award amount. Recipients are expected to share their results at a future Wilson Ornithological Society annual meeting (either as an oral presentation or a poster) within five years of receiving the grant. Awardees must also provide a short written summary and a photograph for posting on the Society’s website.

Louis Agassiz Fuertes Grants
The Louis Agassiz Fuertes Grants represent the Society’s top honor in this program. These awards are open to all ornithologists, although preference is given to graduate students and early-career professionals. Research on any aspect of avian biology is eligible. Each year up to two Fuertes Grants of $5,000 each may be awarded.
