Wyland National Art Challenge

Internationally acclaimed environmental artist, conservation advocate, and muralist Wyland is extending an invitation to classrooms all over the United States to participate in the 13th Wyland National Art Challenge. This nationwide contest, which focuses on environmental murals and individual art, is themed around the conservation of our oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands. The competition commences on Oct. 1, 2025, and concludes on Dec. 1, 2025. Teachers are encouraged to collaborate with their students to create a mural painting measuring 4-foot by 8-foot (or larger) that illustrates the impact of conservation on our lives and the world. Over 20 classrooms that register before Sept 5, 2025, will be randomly selected to receive a mural canvas. NOTE: Schools that do not receive a mural kit can still participate by painting a mural on any 4-foot by 8-foot surface (or larger).
Teachers are required to submit photographs of their class's mural painting for contest entry at www.wylandfoundation.org/artchallenge between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1, 2025. The contest is divided into categories for grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The class in each category that best demonstrates their understanding of conservation through their mural will be awarded a cash prize. Schools can register multiple classes, but only one free mural kit per school is allowed. To enter, each mural must be accompanied by a minimum of five individual student drawings or paintings, which will help them explore their subject matter and theme for their mural. An individual winner will be chosen from each grade category, K-12. Prizes include a scholarship and gift cards for art supplies.
THREE OPPORTUNITIES TO WIN:
Only images of your artwork will be judged, not the actual artwork. Images can be uploaded starting October 1st. The Art Challenge's theme is environmental and water conservation. Teachers are encouraged to inspire their students to emphasize conservation and participate in all three categories: classroom mural, individual art, and photography.
1. Classroom Mural:
Experience the wonder of artistic teamwork! Collaborate as a class to create a 4-foot by 8-foot (or larger) mural. Three classrooms will be awarded $500 for art supplies from Blick Art Materials.
2. Individual Art:
Unleash your inner artist! Individual artworks, in any medium, that support the theme of the class mural. One 11th or 12th-grade winner will receive a $500 scholarship. Additional winners from each grade level will be awarded a $50 gift card for art supplies from Blick Art Materials. (participation in the mural is not required for individual art entries)
3. Individual Photography:
Showcase your perspective of the world! Capture a moment in nature. One 11th or 12th-grade winner will receive a $250 scholarship. An additional winner will be awarded a $50 gift card.
