Overview Founded in 2016, the Ramblers Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate-bound student athletes who either publicly identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex (LGBTQI) or who are proven, committed straight allies. Winners receive a one-time award paid directly to their college or university to help cover tuition. Each summer up to two recipients are publicly announced, with awards of $2,500 each. The application window opens annually from February 15 through May 1. What to submit Applicants must provide: - A fully completed application form - Five (5) short essays - Two (2) letters of recommendation - A list of relevant honors and extracurricular activities - A copy of official or unofficial transcripts Who is eligible To qualify, an applicant must: - Be an athlete (any sport or athletic activity qualifies) - Be openly and self-identified as LGBTQI or be a demonstrated, committed ally - Either be a graduating high school student planning to enroll at an accredited U.S. undergraduate college or university, or already be enrolled as an undergraduate student at a U.S. institution - Be between the ages of 15 and 22 (age eligibility depends on age at high school graduation) Preferred candidate qualities Successful applicants typically: - Demonstrate a clear financial need - Would be substantially helped by this one-time award - Can clearly state personal and professional goals - Show sustained, passionate involvement in extracurricular activities - Exhibit leadership in academics, athletics, and/or extracurricular pursuits - Have a reasonable likelihood of completing their undergraduate degree - Show interest in community service, volunteerism, or involvement with the LGBTQI community Why this scholarship exists The Ramblers Scholarship expands the organization’s support for student athletes who are committed to and serve the LGBTQI community. We aim for this financial assistance to affirm recipients’ pride and to help them pursue their educational and career objectives.
