Swim With Mike Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Swim With Mike Foundation
How to Apply
Visit our application portal to submit an application for an academic scholarship from the Swim With Mike Foundation. We are currently accepting submissions for the 2026–27 academic year. All applications must be received by May 1, 2026.
About the scholarship
The scholarship program traces its roots to 1981, when the inaugural Swim For Mike was organized to raise funds for a specially outfitted van for Mike Nyeholt—a three-time All‑American swimmer who was left paralyzed from the chest down after a motorcycle accident. The swim-a-thon generated more funds than were needed for the vehicle; at Mike’s request, the surplus became the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund to assist student-athletes who had experienced comparable, life-changing injuries. At the time, it was the only program of its kind in the United States.
Swim With Mike has grown into an annual event hosted at USC’s Uytengsu Aquatics Center, with satellite swims now held at college campuses nationwide. Mike’s decision to help others started what we call the Ripple Effect—one that has allowed scholarship recipients across two generations to pursue higher education. We encourage you to apply and become part of the Swim With Mike community.
